Nick Karagua (feat. Legolath): Never [RR008]Never is a lush track by Nik Karagua from Germany featuring female vocalist Legolath on the mic. Remixes come from André Absolut (tripped out and punchy tech number) and Vandal who gives us a laid back electro groover.

Andre delivers a 4/4 take on ‘Never’ that stays in keeping with the style that he has already received praise for in the past. A dark, rumbling bassline, is accompanied by tight, rolling percussion alongside snippets of the vocal that are used only in part. As the track builds, various synth lines are also introduced and a few miniature breakdowns ensure that it would rock a crowd on a big sound system. The production is good and as I said I’m sure it would sound fat on a large system. Only complaint I have, is that perhaps a little more could be going on at times. Having said that, it is a dub mix, which probably explains it. Otherwise a nice track overall. The original version of ‘Never’ is by far and away the funkiest of the mixes on offer, boasting a fat breakbeat arrangement with hard hitting drums and a beefy bassline. Alongside this however, are emotional strings and the vocal, which is used in full (unlike the other two mixes). It rolls along very nicely and will keep you listening from start to finish. Having heard a previous remix from Sam Vandal for Phantom Beats (which was superb) I was very interested to listen to this particular version. Beginning with one of his trademark uplifting string arrangements, a dark yet quite funky bassline then creeps into proceedings, and sits alongside the strings nicely. Tight percussion, a beautiful long breakdown, and good use of the vocal make this particular remix a winner for me. A good, solid release from Ritmic, catering for a wide audience, with a very user friendly set of mixes. 4/5 Nrg Music Swiss breaks outfit Ritmic continue to make moves with their biggest release to date featuring mixes from the UK's Vandal and prog star Andre Absolut. Vandal's mix sounds like something Kimball or Icey would have dropped at Club Firestone or The Edge back in the day` with thick` uplifting chords anda rolling UK bassline riding Rennie Pilgrem-style beats. Think Newton's 'Orlando'. Prog jocks will love Absolut's mix which explores tech-house territory similiar to his previous SOG releases` with Sasha` Danny Howells and the Sumsonic guys already rumoured to be on this hidden gem.
